π Guide of the Week
The State of AI Overview Sources: 50+ Stats Every SEO Should Bookmark
A data-packed breakdown of who actually gets cited inside Google's AI Overviews β and why most sites still don't make the cut.

A large-scale study of 55,393 Google queries over 40 days (MarchβApril 2026) pulled back the curtain on how AI Overviews actually work. The findings challenge a lot of what Google publicly claims about its own system.
The numbers you need to know:
AI Overviews trigger on just 13.7% of all queries β but that jumps to 64.7% for question-form searches
11% of all claims inside AI Overviews are unsupported by the sources they actually cite
29.8% of cited sources don't even appear on the first page of Google's own search results
Politics (7.5%) and Law & Government (9.6%) see suppressed AIO rates β but Health gets AIOs 26.6% of the time
"How" queries trigger AIOs at 84.3%, meaning explanatory content is your biggest GEO opportunity
50.6%+ of cited publisher pages carry display ads β but publishers lose the click while Google keeps its ad revenue on the same page
This Week in Search, Social & Ads
The second broad core rollout of the year started May 21 and could take up to two weeks to settle, so expect SERP turbulence through early June.
Gemini-built ads in AI Search, the new "Ask Advisor" agent across Ads and GA4, Asset Studio creative tools, and a Universal Cart for agentic commerce headlined the show.
Site owners are seeing sharp drops in reported backlinks, but past incidents suggest it's a sampling/reporting glitch rather than actual link loss.

Amazon's new Dynamic TV Creative cycles through formats β standard spot, product carousel, then squeeze-back with add-to-cart β to kill ad fatigue and lift engagement.
Editorial VP Laura Lorenzetti outlined updates that reward authentic perspectives and thoughtful engagement while suppressing low-effort, AI-generated posts.

New data shows creator-led ad formats drive measurably higher attention, trust, and purchase action than standard placements on the platform.
Meta argues the two are complementary stages of the same buyer journey and lays out the dual-content strategy brands need to win on both.
The new Connectors API stores AI provider keys via the WordPress options API, raising concerns about credential exposure across plugins and external agents.
The "Intelligent Search box" expands as you type, accepts text, images, files, videos and Chrome tabs, and pushes AI suggestions that go beyond autocomplete.
Average AI Mode queries are 3x longer than traditional searches, follow-ups jumped 40% monthly, and 1 in 6 searches are now multimodal.
AI assistant visits now appear as a built-in referral channel in GA4, while FAQ schema report views end in June and API support shuts off in August.
